In 2018, friends and car enthusiasts Paul and Carl were changing the brake discs on one of their cars and thought it was a shame to throw the old parts away. They wondered if they could be used in some way as automotive themed décor around their homes instead. After being used as a doorstop for a few months, one of the discs was left on the coffee table where it was used as a candle holder and later filled with wax and turned into a refillable candle. Without knowing it at the time, Paul and Carl had just founded Glowsmith.

After numerous burns of the Brake Disc Candle, they found out that there was significantly more to candle making than just pouring wax into suitable containers! A period of development started where a range of wax blends were created to produce candles that burn cleanly and safely, produce superb aromas and have outstanding colours and textures. It was on this point in the journey that ‘Glowsmith Wax’ was conceived and the ‘Glowsmith Any Colour Candle’ range was made possible.

Inspired by the unique style of the Brake Disc Candle and noting the lack of high-quality industrial and automotive themed candles available, the pair developed a range of candle designs from Refillable Concrete Tyres to Engine Pistons and even Grease Tins! Today, Glowsmith candles are available throughout the UK for individuals and businesses who have a passion for engineering beauty and would like to showcase this and make a candle a focal point for any space.
